[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… The essays in this volume derive from research conducted by the author between 1992 and 2013. The common thread is given by the references to the figure and works of Alexander von Humboldt, of whom the author edited in 1992 the Italian edition of a text entitled "Examen critique de l'histoire de la géographie du Nouveau Continent" (1835 ). By that time, von Humboldt had already returned to Berlin, where he organized the famous congresses of scientists and maintained close correspondence with his interlocutors both in France and in what was becoming the independent Latin America. Throughout his long existence (1769-1859), von Humboldt never ceased to exert a considerable influence on the European scientific community: his role was to promote a number of fields of knowledge and to activate the formation and dissemination of large inventories of 'physical' (that is, geographic) knowledge. Certainly he was the most celebrated man of science, perhaps too much, throughout the first half of the nineteenth century, especially in Paris and Berlin.]
