History as a specific historical form of reflection of the presence wins in the transition phase in 1800 a new quality. It is an expression of political and economic experiences and acceleration of the changing media constellations. My issue is the major global financial crises, revolutions and geopolitical conflicts; her field the intermediate area of history and journalism. Historians do not move in the academic ivory tower, but you are looking for a wide audience as well as being close to the policy-makers. Nevertheless, contemporary history is understood as a form of knowledge beyond the mere daily politics. As the science of social change it is in the tradition of the historical thought of the Enlightenment, and has at the same time forward to the historicist critique of the Vormärz. In this study, players, media, European press networks, forms of knowledge and discourses of so circumscribed historiography are reconstructed examples. Central to this is Friedrich Buchholz (1768-1843). Are first released in a source appendix Buchholz's letters to his publisher Johann Friedrich Cotta from the years 1805-1833, representing a vivid document of both the political situation this time and the market conditions of the new public forms.
