La astrología del ingenio en Perú Virreinal (1639-1660) (2023)

This article focuses on the third section of Juan de Figueroa’s Opúsculo de astrología en medicina, published in Lima in 1660. The study suggests that the third part of the book, devoted to wit (ingenio) and children’s upbringing, was mainly taken from Ephemerides Branderburgicae (1609), a work written by the German mathematician and astrologer David Origanus and forbidden by Catholic ecclesiastical authorities. Finally, the article proposes a convergence between Figueroa’s political views and the Augustinian creole Antonio de la Calancha’s astrological conceptions also based on Origanus’s treatise.
