"Some Remarks on the Meaning of the Adjective ἠθικός/éthikos in the Galenic Corpus" · This paper explores the meaning of the Greek words ἦθος ‘character trait’ and ἔθος ‘habit’ in the Galenic corpus. In particular, it investigates what the expression ἠθικὴ φιλοσοφία ‘moral philosophy’ means for Galen and to what extent this notion is dependent on Stoic philosophy, distinguishing it from the so called θεωρητικὴ φιλοσοφία ‘speculative philosophy’. Indeed, ethical (or moral) philosophy for Galen appears to be mainly and almost exclusively useful if it makes it possible to treat patients and their passions
