The theology of the Socinians weaves deep alliances with Pierre Gassendi’s thought. Of particular importance is the harmony about the divine conservation of creatures. This harmony reveals a secret thesis of Gassendi himself, namely the eternity of matter. Leibniz, supporting the divine conservation as continuous creation thesis, seems to associate with the same criticism Gassendi and the Socinians.
