Les manuels de géométrie dans le Japon de l’ère Meiji (1868-1912) : Des témoins des révolutions du livre et de l’enseignement des mathématiques (2017)

Afin de renégocier les traités inégaux signés à la fin de l’époque d’Edo (1603-1868), le gouvernement japonais engage le pays dans un mouvement de modernisation. Ainsi, durant l’ère Meiji (1868-1912), l’enseignement des mathématiques et le livre japonais évoluent de manière rapide, notamment grâce à l’importation de connaissances et techniques occidentales.Dans cet article, nous nous concentrerons sur les manuels de géométrie produits et utilisés dans ce contexte pour mettre en parallèle l’histoire de l’enseignement, l’histoire des mathématiques et l’histoire du livre. Nous montrerons en particulier que ces manuels sont les témoins de la révolution du livre qui caractérise l’ère Meiji, mais aussi que la révolution du livre a des impacts sur la forme générale que le texte mathématique prend durant cette période.
