This paper applies a method to identify and evaluate the impact of the transfer of a technology, polycrystalline diamond drill bits, from Sandia National Laboratories to the drill bit industry. Impact includes economic effect and effect not readily quantifiable in dollar values. The impact profile indicates a very positive outcome. A range of cost–benefit ratios was found when two valid, yet different, sets of assumptions were used.
