Rembis, Michael Allen (Author)
This excellent book provides a broad yet richly textured, nuanced study of intellectual disability in 12 states/areas over the long twentieth century. While this book is not comprehensive (no book can be), it offers a brilliant starting point for students and experts interested in the modern history of intellectual disability. Each of the book’s 12 chapters places people with intellectual disabilities at the centre of their analysis of policy and practice. Interview transcripts and direct quotations from people with disabilities punctuate this timely and persuasive intervention into disability history.
