Braverman, Charles (Author)
My point is to demonstrate that Ampère’s practice in sciences is rooted in classification. In his opinion, philosophy can become scientific thanks to the paradigm of classification, inherited from a chemical point of view and from empiricism. Actually, Ampère’s analysis shows us that the classification of the mental faculties is the only way to justify the value of the paradigm of classification. That is why sciences need philosophy. Moreover, a classification can be seen as natural, if there are a rigorous inductive method and a mathematization of the relations described by this classification. Finally, the mathematization itself must be rooted in the classification of the mental faculties and the concept of intuition.
