Rector, Josiah (Author)
An essay is presented concerning the labor group the United Automobile Workers (UAW) and its efforts to acquire equal protection from carcinogens and other toxic hazards to which auto factory workers were exposed during the latter half of the 20th century. It discusses the work of the UAW Social Security Department, strikes within automobile company plants operated by companies such as General Motors (GM), Ford Motor Company, and Chrysler Corporation, and the concept of environmental justice. It also discusses the U.S. government agency the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
