In this article the history of educating on aviation technique in Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (end of XIX - 30s of XX centuries) is presented. The activity of one of the first aviation organization in Ukraine - the Students Aeronautic Group, design and construction of various flying vehicles by students and lecturers of the Institute, their work in Kyiv Society of Aeronautics, work of the aviation plant - one of the first in Ukraine, aviation and aut mobile workshops during the First World War, attempt of organization aviation specialiststs training in a tsar's period and Civil War, and also training of stuff for Soviet aviation industry. In 1933 foundation of the Kyiv aviation institute (now National aviation university) on the basis of the aviation faculty of KPI are described in the article. Accumulated experience, strong aviation traditions and growing demand for aircraft specialists in independent Ukraine were the prerequisites of opening the special Department of aviation and space systems in KPI in 1993.
