Klein, Boris (Author)
While numerous signs and traces remain from the public lectures given during the early modern era in German universities, mentions of the private lessons held by the teachers at their homes are seldom found. This study intends to appraise the importance of these private lectures both for teachers and students as well as for the functioning of the universities. In addition, a close look at these lessons appears to enable us to understand how the seminar form was born and how it became rooted in German universities during the 19th century.
