Yurkin, I. N. (Author)
Lomonosov's death did not allow him to complete his announced project on "Russian Mineralogy", but documents related to the preliminary work on his proposal have been found in the collection of the Berg-Collegium in the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts. This article reconstructs in detail the story of the collaboration, in which the agency was supposed to provide the scientist with samples of minerals and ores from various state and privately owned mines under its supervision. The documents allow discussion of the forms and degree of involvement by the Academy of Sciences in the 18th century in collaborations with other state institutions on solving practical tasks related to industrial and economic development.
