As part of the Foundation “Pour la science” it was founded in 1925 by Henri Berr (1863-1954) and led by him until his death in 1954. The objective of the Revue d’Histoire des Sciences parallels the program for a general history of the sciences conducted in France since Paul Tannery (1843-1904). Both have been oriented toward a conceptual history of the sciences and the study of scientific content, without excluding other approaches, especially institutional and sociological. The Revue d'Histoire des Sciences seeks to be generalist in its approach, and is the only French journal that covers all scientific periods and disciplines. Intended to be a working tool, the journal publishes seminal articles as well as unpublished texts, critical studies, biographies and bibliographies, and book reviews. While seeking to remain a place for distributing work by French and French-speaking researchers and for promoting young researchers, it also strives to be a publication referenced by historians of the sciences. The Revue d’Histoire des Sciences particularly welcomes research written in English.
