Documenti sulla messa all’Indice delle opere di Henry More (1698-1703) (2020)

unapi

This article features a transcription of unpublished documents from the Archive of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith concerning the censorial procedure that led to the prohibition of the works of the Cambridge Platonist Henry More (1614-1687). In this paper are published three censurae drawn up on behalf of the Congregation for the Index between 1699 and 1701 by the Franciscan Bonaventura Sant’Elia (1660-1715) and by Giuseppe Ignazio Cordero (1666-1740). These reports examine More’s Opera theologica (1675) and the first volume of the Opera philosophica (1679), including, inter alia, Enchiridion metaphysicum and Enchiridion ethicum.
