Ernst Cassirer e il dibattito sul sapere umanistico in Germania tra Otto e Novecento (2019)

unapi

The essay examines an important time in the debate on humanistic knowledge as it developed in Germany between the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, with particular reference to Ernst Cassirer and the theme of symbolic forms. In particular, it shows that Cassirer’s focus on scientific knowledge was not intended to mean or lead to the conclusion that human sciences were to be understood throught the exact sciences method, nor that understanding life and the world could only be achieved in the scientific domain. The essay explores this argument as it was developed in some parts of Cassirer’s work and in the dialogue he engaged in with Hermann Usener and Aby Warburg.
