The archives of the Nagasaki trade and the transcription of the conversations between Chinese and Korean physicians on the one hand and Japanese physicians on the other provide information about the different channels through which medical knowledge circulated from China and Korea to Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). Texts rather than men played an important role in the transmission of knowledge related to the practice of acupuncture. The Chinese and Korean physicians who went to Japan did not contribute directly to the diffusion of acupuncture. Only a few questions on this topic were asked in their conversations with Japanese physicians, and their answers mainly reveal differences in the interpretation of the Chinese classics or in the use of acupuncture needles. However, several conversations show that certain elements of know-how, such as pulse diagnosis or some acupuncture techniques, were transmitted orally rather than by texts.,
