Most of the c. 300 fragments of Eratosthenes are transmitted in the "Geography" of Strabo. An analysis of the Eratosthenic fragments on Alexander the Great shows that Strabo had access to at least four different works of the Alexandrian polymath: "Geographika," "About the Measurement of the Earth," "Hermes," and "On Good and Bad Things." Therefore, a reconstruction of the geographical work of Eratosthenes seems only feasible within a broader framework, i.e. a badly needed commented edition of all Eratosthenic fragments.
