Bowler, Peter J. (Author)
This article describes predictions about the benefits of future developments in science and technology made in the popular science literature of the early 20th century. An outline of this literature's characteristics is provided based on the author's book “Science for All” and the article then offers a detailed description of the predictions made in various fields in the popular science magazines published in inter-war Britain. Tables identifying the percentage of the material devoted to various fields of technical development are given to show which were the most popular. Examples of the predictions made are also provided.
