The introduction provides the general framework for the papers collected in this issue. A state of the art paragraph insists on the renewed interest for Galen’s pharmacological treatise On simple drugs as well as on the most recent perspectives adopted to investigate its textual tradition. In the second part, we discuss the role of the treatise in Galen’s pharmacology and we briefly introduce the topics covered by each paper.
