Research on Matteo Ricci’s world map is a popular topic in the field of Sino-Western relations in the Ming Dynasty, with a large number of outstanding achievements. In this paper,we study four issues based on newly discovered Chinese data and the retranslated memoirs and collection of letters of Ricci. The issues include the name of the first world map designed in Zhaoqing; the discovery and value of the preface of the Shanhaiyuditu written by Zhao Kehuai; the year when Wu Zhongming drew the Shanhai yudi quantu; and who drew the two small world maps.
