Owen Gingerich's curious case (2010)

This paper examines an article by Owen Gingerich, published in Galilaeana in 2009, in which it is claimed that the watercolor drawings of the Sidereus Nuncius are a forgery. The case for the authenticity of the drawings had been made in great detail and with impeccable scholarship by Horst Bredekamp in his book (2007). Bredekamp, as this paper shows, had anticipated the objections raised by Gingerich and his convincing replies are outlined.
