Lupacchini, Rossella (Author)
[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… This book was born from the idea that the link between art and science, properly interpreted as a distinctive feature of European Renaissance culture, is the result of a shared vision of the "truth of form": mathematics interprets the beauty of nature, nature embodies the beauty of mathematics. Through critical reflection on the ways and purposes of artistic representation, the task is defined of defining ways and purposes of scientific representation, of building a mathematical science of nature. If the painters' perspective shows the opportunity to define a plane that intercepts the visual image, separating the eye he sees from the observed object, for Leonardo the painter must "become a mind of nature itself and be an interpreter between nature and art" . The investigation conducted in this volume does not follow the history of the philosophy of nature nor does it intend to offer further study in the analysis of the relationship between the culture of the Renaissance and the origin of modern science, but focuses on some reasons that contributed to the formation Leonardo's scientific ideal and the reflections of this ideal in the transformations of the physical image of the world. It has a twofold objective: to highlight a Leonardo-Leibniz perspective correlation, between natural geometry and mathematical creativity, and to raise awareness of the characteristics of a universal harmony that is transmitted from the mind of nature to the art of science.]
