Oltre il banco dello speziale: l'Erbario Foletto (Ledro, Trentino Alto-Adige) (2016)

unapi

Coincidentally escaped from the devastation of World War I, Foletto’s Herbarium proves the passionate work of Angelo Foletto (1871-1966), a botanist, chemist and experimenter who lived and worked in Ledro Valley, in Trentino Alto-Adige. Foletto concentrated his botanical researches between 1890 and 1896. The origin of the vegetal samples is really various: although most of them were collected in Ledro Valley, some of the sheets report localities such as Innsbruck, Val di Sole, Rovereto and Valli del Chiese. This precious collection, made up of about 2700 “private” samples, was further enriched with plants obtained through exchanges with contemporary botanist from Middle Europe. In 2007, the botanists of Civic Museum of Rovereto could study the herbarium for the first time, discovering curious aspects: the herbarium, indeed, not only offers a reliable characterization of the XIX century Ledro Valley’s botanical profile, but it also represents a source of unknown floristic remarks for Trentino. This year, a new project is going to intend to study Foletto’s collection of herbs for a second time. While in 2007 the study was mainly focused on the taxonomical aspects of plants, in the next few months we’re trying to compare the past and present botanical profiles of Ledro Valley, in order to understand how land-use has influenced the presence and the distribution of vegetal species.
