Il volume indaga l’evoluzione del pensiero di Hilary Putnam nei primi decenni della sua carriera intellettuale, con particolare attenzione al tema del realismo. Il rapporto tra il “realismo scientifico” – maturato nell’arco degli anni Sessanta attraverso il confronto con le questioni epistemologiche ereditate dal neopositivismo – e la successiva concezione del “realismo interno”, a partire dalla seconda metà degli anni Settanta, è stato studiato evidenziandone per lo più i punti di discontinuità. Tale impostazione ha prodotto frequenti interpretazioni unilaterali, secondo cui il realismo scientifico rappresenterebbe una concezione riduzionista della realtà d’ispirazione neopositivista e il realismo interno un’opposta reazione antirealista. Una maggiore attenzione ai punti di continuità e alle linee di progressività tra le due concezioni del realismo, risulta dunque interessante non solo per ampliare le prospettive di ricerca degli studi sul pensiero putnamiano, ma anche per immaginare una sintesi tra le principali istanze della filosofia contemporanea e, infine, per riflettere sulla complessità della conoscenza umana. The relationship between "scientific realism" - which matured during the 1960s through the confrontation with epistemological issues inherited from neo-positivism - and the later conception of "internal realism," beginning in the second half of the 1970s, has been studied, mostly highlighting their points of discontinuity. This approach has produced frequent one-sided interpretations, according to which scientific realism would represent a neo-positivist-inspired reductionist conception of reality and internal realism an opposite anti-realist reaction. More attention to the points of continuity and lines of progressiveness between the two conceptions of realism is therefore of interest not only to broaden the research perspectives of studies on Putnam's thought, but also to imagine a synthesis between the main instances of contemporary philosophy and, finally, to reflect on the complexity of human knowledge.]
