[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… Between the end of the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth century, the Italian regions of Veneto and Friuli, and especially the province of Belluno, were hit by a syphilis epidemic, now forgotten. The epidemic lasted about 40 years, but only three decades after its appearance (and many hundreds of deaths) the first public interventions were put in place to contain it, thanks to a "sifilocomio" opened in Agordo (Belluno) by a local doctor, Giuseppe Vallenzasca. The infection came from the Ottoman territories: it entered Italy from Dalmatia to Venice and then the Agordina valley, and from Fiume to Falcade (hence the name of Falcadina); a third way directly interested Friuli. The book reconstructs those distant events through the accounts of the time, medical knowledge and debates, therapies, the social environment, "zero patients," the methods of contagion not always transmitted sexually, the public strategies implemented in the Belluno area and in Fiume, with some digressions in literature.]
