In the early 1980s the authors conducted an initial industrial archeological survey of the Long Pond Ironworks site in northern New Jersey's Highlands region. This article describes the methodology employed during the project, the survey results, and how the site's remains were organized and depicted in hypothetical illustrations that represent the various forges and furnaces and the waterpower systems at each of its historic periods.
