Andrea Adams rekonstruiert diese wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung, analysiert die Vielfalt an Positionen und Themen sowie die Aushandlungs- und Stabilisierungsprozesse, die für die Produktion von Wissen über 'Rasse' und Psychopathologie notwendig waren. Ihre Studie unternimmt erstmals eine umfassende wissenschaftshistorische Betrachtung von 'Rassenforschung' innerhalb des psychiatrischen Feldes und ordnet sie in den breiteren Kontext der Wissenschafts- und Psychiatriegeschichte sowie der historischen Rassismusforschung ein.
