Tra cautela e paradosso: un'orazione di Thomas Bartholin "De nihilo medico" (2017)

unapi

The collection of Orationes published in 1668 by the Danish physician Thomas Bartholin (1616-1680) testify to the importance of sermocinal arts in redefining the status of medicine and in the affirmation of the intellectual dignity of its practitioners. This paper examines the oration "De nihilo medico," where Bartholin, with the tools of the rhetorical paradox, ponders on the gradual cleavage of disciplinary certainty and on the possibility of establishing therapeutic interventions inspired to Hippocratic caution and to confidence in the vis medicatrix of nature.
