This contribution evidences the importance of mathematical optics developed by the Arab scientist Ibn al Haytham, namely Alhazen for Latin medieval scholars. His main work on optics was known by Leon Battista Alberti both in the widespread Latin version (De aspectibus) and in the vulgar Italian translation realized in mid-fourteenth century (De li aspecti).
