English abstract from Google Translate: With the discovery of interference phenomena in 1912, Max von Laue demonstrated the wave nature of X-rays and the atomic lattice structure of the crystals. With this he opened a new era of research into the structure of matter. These discoveries were honored with the 1914 Nobel Prize in Physics and established Laue's world fame as an excellent theoretical physicist. He campaigned for the recognition of Einstein's theory of relativity early on and came out with fundamental theoretical work on light scattering, matter waves and superconductivity. Close friends with Albert Einstein and Lise Meitner, Laue was one of the few scientists who remained in Germany during the Nazi era who “stayed upright” in Einstein's words. - It is all the more astonishing
