"Con fatiche veramente atlantiche". Il primato della scienza nella "Lettera a cristina di Lorena" (2003)

unapi

The essay proposes to demonstrate how Galileo's works written between 1612 and 1615, culminating in the composition of the "Lettera a Cristina di Lorena," are directly related to his studies of astronomy, optics and physics conducted in the second decade of the seventeenth century. Any enquiry into the motives which induced Galileo to write these works, thus getting himself involved in a dangerous debate with an uncertain outcome, must necessarily take into account the scientific research which occupied the mathematician in these years. Those pages which are dedicated to the interpretation of biblical passages containing references to subjects pertaining to natural philosophy cannot be separated from the rest of his more properly scientific production, which they logically and cogently complete.
