Il mondo degli animali nella "Sirenide" di Paolo Regio: allegoria e scienza della natura (2015)

unapi

This article examines the animals represented in Paolo Regio's poem "Sirenide," the allegorical and moral meaning of which is illustrated by the author himself in the "Dechiarazione" of the poetic text. Just as in the "Divina Commedia," so in the "Sirenide" animals are identified with vices and sinners. The intention is to show how sin corrupts the nature and image of man, the son of God, thus rendering im similar to animals. Regio shows himself particularly attentive to the allegorical exegesis of animals, as well as to the study of physiognomy. He also engages in an original reading, from a historical and autobiographical viewpoint, of certain mythological animals, such as Actaeon's dogs.
