Lauriello, Giuseppe (Author)
[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… What we today contemplate as sexuality, understood as a set of behaviors concerning the sexual sphere, in the Middle Ages was known and examined very marginally, if not even ignored in many of its aspects. These are complex, biological, psychological, social and cultural attitudes, correctly addressed and investigated only starting from the second half of the nineteenth century. Using the "De coitu" by Constantine African, reported and commented, the author takes the opportunity for an overview on the subject, tracing an excursus that goes from the Middle Ages to the present day and emphasizing in particular the doctrinal assumptions in vogue in the Middle Ages. The work is enriched by an appendix relating to pharmaceutical botany in progress in the therapeutic treatments of the time.]
