[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… The epidemic contagion covers a conspicuous space in the historiography of the Mediterranean, while the metaphorical contagion, the contagion of ideas, on the contrary, occupies an undoubtedly narrower space. This is a serious gap, all the more so because the Mediterranean context has always been a privileged network of relationships, displacements, migrations and contaminations. This research investigates what perspectives the "contagion of the ideas of contagion" opens, what tensions it creates, what processes it implies, what results it brings. In a broad-spectrum investigation, from the Christian to the Islamic Mediterranean, from the Middle Ages to the contemporary age, five long journeys through the epidemic diseases that have hit humanity, from the Black Plague to AIDS, follow the itineraries traced by those circular flows of theoretical and practical knowledge on contagion, dwelling on the debates that have been recorded for reasons that are sometimes similar, sometimes opposite, on both sides, deeply investing societies on the medical and religious level, legal, political, bioethical. In a continuous exchange between the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea, those knowledges are observed as they unite or divide geographic areas, cultures and social actors, drawing unpredictable geometries and making the pendulum swing from contagionism to miasmism and vice versa, in harmony or in contrast with the opposite bank. Thus we come to discover, step by step, that those banks were, and still are today, anything but opposite. The result is a picture of strong suggestion and great novelty, not only for the past but also for the present, of both Africa and Europe.]
