Poincaré’s Electromagnetic Quantum Mechanics (2019)

unapi

Drafting a history of quantum mechanics is a very complex task. Many different roads have led to quantum theory: Heisenberg with Born and Jordan, Schrödinger, and Dirac have given us the most important formulations of quantum mechanics. Another, neglected, historical formulation of quantum physics is considered here through an overview of the historical context in which different conceptions of Nature (mechanistic, thermodynamic and electromagnetic) contended the claim of providing the foundations of physics. A particular focus is devoted to the origins of quantum physics within an electromagnetic conception of Nature and Poincaré’s quantum electromagnetic mechanics. This analysis can lead to a completely new understanding of quantum physics.
