Ventura, Iolanda (Author)
This paper offers a general overview of the reception and the use of Galen’s Simple Drugs between the 13th and the 14th century. In particular, this study focuses upon the direct tradition of the two Latin translations produced by Gerard of Cremona and Niccolò da Reggio, and on the indirect reception of the main notion of Galenic pharmacology through works like Avicenna’s Liber canonis. Special attention is paid to the role played by some “Scholastic physicians” active in 14th century Italy.
