[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… The scientific career of Lazzaro Spallanzani was entirely covered by an incurable "bulimia" of the eye and of the hand. However, no research can compare with the second survey on respiration and none was concentrated in such a short time (1795-1799), producing such an impressive mass of results. This outcome originated from Spallanzani's passion for the new chemistry, which inflamed the last years of his life and reconciled him with the study of respiration - which, in turn, had already been visited twenty years before and had been abandoned because of his aversion to phlogistic chemistry. This book summarizes four intertwined research works performed by Spallanzani: the classical respiratory theories; the first research (pre-Lavoisier, and therefore "wrong"); the "French novelties"; and the second investigation.]
