[Abstract translated by DeepL.com/Translator: This is the abstract in English… The reign years of Cosimo III de' Medici witnessed in Tuscany the last great experimental season sponsored by the Medici princes in the field of botanical and agronomic disciplines. Heir to a family tradition well known in Europe since the Renaissance, Cosimo invested considerable resources in horticulture by treasuring the research conducted in academies, universities and grand-ducal apothecaries as well as what he learned from illustrious masters and during frequent youthful travels. By supporting scholars such as Francesco Redi, Pietro Nati, Michelangelo Tilli and Pier Antonio Micheli, Cosimo III directed the insights and experiences of the New Science toward full maturity, fostering an extraordinary advancement of knowledge related to the plant world. The onerous expeditions financed to distant lands enabled physicians and explorers to find new varieties of medicinal herbs, fruits, and vegetables, which, entrusted to the care of qualified gardeners such as Sebastiano Rapi, soon spread throughout the grand ducal estates. Fundamental to the cross-sectional research presented here were often unpublished archival documents - including correspondence, diaries, and inventories of botanical collections - detailed in relation to the specialized treatises of the time and the production of naturalistic drawings and paintings that were highly prized at the grand ducal court. Tuscan horticulture between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries is thus contextualized in a lively international setting, providing valuable insights into pages of history often wrongly regarded as minor.]
