The Codex iconographicus 242 the Bavarian State Library is John Fontana's most famous book. The Venetian Doctor of Arts and medicine written about 1420, soon after his brilliant early works. From the technical literature of the early Renaissance, the manuscript for two reasons protrudes. Firstly, they impressed by the variety and originality of the designs, on the other hand they puzzled by the use of a symbol font in the text. Unlike in the earlier writings Fontana moved here the illustrations in the center and took the inscriptions briefly. The ciphers are indeed determined, we wait some pictures still a plausible interpretation and technique historical period. The compact output leads in the kopial traditional machines a Book, it is divided into sections, brings all pictures as tracings and facilitates access by a first translation into German.
