Most bridge historians are familiar with the King Iron Bridge and Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, established by Zenas King about the time of the Civil War. It became one of the leading bridge firms in the United States during the second half of the 19th century, based in part on a corporate structure and shop methods that facilitated a national operation. But it was King's extraordinary group of salesmen who built a diversity and quantity of sales that ultimately brought national fame to the company.
