An ancient and rare book and documentary heritage of great wealth is preserved in Palazzo Paradiso, seat of the Ariostea Library, built up over the centuries: precious recipes “to make a woman beautiful ...” from the ancient collections of manuscripts and editions of the sixteenth century at the Ariostea Municipal Library in Ferrara. It is an important medical-cosmetic recipe manuscript from the sixteenth century, known as Pseudo-Savonarola, containing different types of recipes, among which those of cosmetics are distinguished. There are sixty-two recipes to magnify the beauty of women according to the dictates and fashions of the time, such as those to make-up, aque to whiten the flesh, that is turning a woman’s face whiter and odoriferous, to make the flesh coloured, to make a lady’s lipstick, to make her hair blond and other solutions that women of the past loved employing for their beauty. Among the precious sixteenth century books Corona de le donne by Eustachio Celebrino is extremely rare, published by the Venetian Bernardino Benali, on May 1, 1526. This is Opera nova excellentissima la quale insegna di far varie compositioni odorifere per far bella ciaschuna donna. Among the beauty tips there is also the recipe for a perfume.
