Rodda, Giordano (Author)
[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… This book investigates the close relationship between the study of the sky and literature in the vernacular from the end of the fifteenth century to the early seventeenth century, focusing on the period between the affirmation of Florentine Neoplatonism and the great treatises of Galileo. With the aim of reconstructing a relationship as crucial as it is elusive and fragmentary in its essence, the five chapters conduct as many investigations focused on specific literary characters: Iachelino for his role in the Ariosto Necromancer; Ruggiero for the fortune of the celestial theme in the epic-chivalric poem from Morgante to Orlando Furioso; Cingar for the astrological dissertation in books XIV and XV of the Baldus by Teofilo Folengo; Colombo and Vespucci for the discovery of the new southern constellations in post-Taxian odeporic literature; Momo for the relationship with the Sun and the cosmos revolutionized by Copernicus to Bruno and Marino. With the awareness that the link with the stars is not just a theme, an area, a concept like any other to be extrapolated, but a level of reading that ends up involving almost every work of the centuries examined - as soon as they become more pressing the urgencies of a renewed relationship with the ancient and the modern - this study aims to illustrate the echoes and literary reflections of the path that leads, between accelerations and second thoughts, from judicial astrology to the new science.]
