Der Jahreskongress der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Innere Medizin als Erinnerungsort der deutschen Internisten - The annual congress of the German Society of Internal Medicine as place of remembrance of German internists (2020)
Die jährliche Kongresse der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Innere Medizin ist seit 1882 der wichtigste Erinnerungsort von Internistinnen und Internisten im deutschsprachigen Raum. Hier begründen und folgen die Mitglieder Ritualen. Zu den Werten des Erinnerungsorts zählte eine Resistenz gegen Unrecht nicht. Bis 1933 trat die DGIM wie viele andere Fachgesellschaften mit ihrer primär wissenschaftlichen Ausrichtung kaum antisemitisch auf. Dann aber erwies sich der scheinbar familiär-solidarische Charakter der Fachgesellschaft als Chimäre. Das moralische Versagen der NS-Zeit wird deutlich, der Erinnerungsort im Sinne Tilman Robbes entmystifiziert. Es dauerte bis zur Wende zum 21. Jahrhundert, als geschichtspolitisches Bewusstsein zu einem prägenden Faktor für den Erinnerungsort wurde. Since 1882, the annual congress of the German Society for Internal Medicine has been the most important place of remembrance for internists in the German-speaking countries. It is here where rituals are established and followed. Resistance against injustice was not part of the values espoused by this assembly. Until 1933, open anti-Semitism was almost absent in the DGIM as in many other medical societies; emphasis was placed on scientific work. But subsequently the apparently familiar and solidary character of the DGIM turned out to be a chimera. Its moral failure in the Nazi era came to light, and the place of memory in the sense of Tilman Robbes saw itself demystified. It was not until the turn of the 21st century that the historical consciousness gained center stage at this memorial site.
