Rilettura di un documento celebre : redazione e diffusione della sentenza e abiura di Galileo (2004)
The issue concerning the author and the original wording of Galileo's sentence and abjuration has not received, up to now, all the attention it deserves. After drafting the research perspectives about the trial, this essay reports a recent discovery in the Roman Inquisition's Archives of te Verdict of Condemnation pronounced by Pope Urban VIII. The reconstruction of the 1633 trial allows to draw the conclusion that both the sentence and abjuration were written, as regards the conceptual part, by the Commissary Maculano. These documents - which informed European scholars of Galileo's condemnation - were intended to protect the reputation of the Master of the Sacted Palace, Riccardi, and of the Pope himself.
