La dose ottima di una cura essenzialmente individuale. Antonio D'Ormea e i postumi dell'encefalite letargica all'Ospedale psichiatrico di Siena (2024)

unapi

From the 1920s onwards, the management of many post-encephalitic patients who survived the acute phase of encephalitis lethargica was often entrusted to psychiatric hospitals because of the psychic symptoms left by the original illness. Antonio D’Ormea, director of the psychiatric hospital of Siena from 1909 to 1952, tried to cure or at least stabilise them with exclusively symptomatic treatments, as was the case in similar facilities or treatment centres, and photographed them to document the progress or failures of these treatments. From the historical archives of the Siena psychiatric hospital, a research through the medical records reveals the treatment methods that were tried there, including the most famous bulgarian cure, an “essentially individual” remedy as D’Ormea himself defined it.
