New consideration is given to how the rhetoric strategy of Galileo's major scientific texts shows its closeness to the classic, paradoxical code, then renewed thanks to "dicerie" presented during the biannual meetings of the Accademia della Crusca in Florence. Common or negative things (cucumbers, pumpkins, fever, chambepots), praised especially by Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger, have been related to the contemporary flourishing of the still-life painted by Empoli, one of the artists closest to Galileo, according to Viviani's biography. Therefore, a new portrait of the scientist as an apostle has been recognized in a Florentine altar-piece by Empoli.
