Der St. Galler Globus ist ein aussergewohnliches Objekt der Wissenschaft und der Reprasentation des 16. Jahrhunderts und eines der wichtigsten Objekte in den Schweizer Museen. Seine bewegte Geschichte fuhrte ihn 1595 von Schwerin nach St. Gallen, 1712 von da als Beutestuck nach Zurich und 2009 als versohnliche Replik wieder zuruck nach St. Gallen. Das Original befindet sich seit 1897 im Zurcher Landesmuseum. Jost Schmid-Lanter, Leiter der Kartensammlung an der Zentralbibliothek Zurich, hat sich in den letzten zehn Jahren intensiv mit diesem herausragenden Objekt befasst und dabei eine ganze Reihe neuer, teilweise auch spektakularer Erkenntnisse gewonnen. Der Band erklart mit Hilfe neuer Hinweise, wo und wie der Globus entstanden ist, und ordnet ihn in die Wissenschaftsgeschichte des 16. Jahrhunderts ein.
