Il Sistema informativo per la salute mentale del Ministero della Salute (2017)

unapi

One of the greatest difficulties in the Italian mental health care system was the lack of an information system with valid data on how, with what results and at what cost “mental health is done” in public services and accredited private facilities. The National Health Information System (SISM) of the Ministry of Health was established by the Decree of the Ministry of Health of 15 October 2010. As of January 1, 2012, the transfer of data to SISM is part of the requirements of the Regions for Access to State Integration Funds (Central State-Regions Conference of 23 March 2005). It is an integrated, patient-centered database and represents the most thorough source of information on health and social care assistance targeted to adult people with psychiatric problems and their families at national and regional levels. SISM proved to be useful for monitoring service activity, the amount of benefits provided, and to assess user’s typology and treatment patterns. It also represents a valuable support to the management activities of the Department of Mental Health (DSM), in particular to assess efficiency and use of resources.
