[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… There is a lot of talk about algorithms today with reference to computers, Google, the profiling of social media users and the advent of artificial intelligence. But their history is much older: the need to solve mathematical problems with appropriate computational rules has always accompanied human life, starting from very concrete needs such as distributing agricultural products, dividing an inheritance, measuring land and allowing merchants to carry out their business profitably. The Middle Ages, in particular, was a period of great evolution of culture, thanks to the rediscovery of cultural and scientific sources, Greek and to Arab mathematicians, who in the ninth century spread the Indian numbering system in the Mediterranean, radically changing the way of doing calculations. The figures of Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi (from which the term algorithm derives), of the Spanish monks who translated the works of Arab mathematicians into Latin, of the Pisan Fibonacci, a merchant and mathematician, of the many "masters of abacus" who taught the calculation to the sons of merchants, as well as humanist mathematicians such as Piero della Francesca and Luca Pacioli, stand out in this choral book whose protagonist is a society that in the Middle Ages was laying the foundations of our contemporaneity.]
